Publication Ethics and Ethical Principles

The Journal of Methods and Aplications in Language Education and Teaching (JMALET) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. The journal adheres to the ethical principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expects all stakeholders (authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher) to comply with these standards.

General Principles

All manuscripts submitted to JMALET must:

• comply with principles of academic integrity and ethical research conduct,
• be original and not previously published,
• not be under consideration for publication elsewhere,
• be free from any form of ethical misconduct.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for:

• ensuring that their work is original and free from plagiarism,
• properly citing all sources used in the study,
• accurately listing all contributors as authors,
• disclosing any potential conflicts of interest,
• obtaining and documenting ethical approval when required,
• avoiding data fabrication, falsification, or manipulation,
• not submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.

Authors are also expected to respond to reviewers’ and editors’ comments in a timely and thorough manner.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

• evaluating manuscripts based solely on their academic merit,
• making decisions independent of authors’ race, gender, religion, or political views,
• ensuring the confidentiality of the review process,
• recusing themselves in cases of conflict of interest,
• initiating investigations in cases of suspected ethical misconduct,
• maintaining transparency and accountability in all editorial processes.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

• provide objective, constructive, and unbiased evaluations,
• review only manuscripts within their field of expertise,
• maintain confidentiality and not share manuscripts with third parties,
• declare any conflicts of interest and withdraw when necessary,
• complete their reviews within the specified timeframe.

Ethical Misconduct

The following are considered violations of publication ethics:

• plagiarism,
• data fabrication or falsification,
• duplicate or redundant publication,
• salami slicing,
• inappropriate authorship (ghost or honorary authorship),
• undisclosed conflicts of interest.

In cases of ethical misconduct:

• manuscripts will be rejected,
• published articles may be retracted,
• relevant institutions may be notified when necessary.

Plagiarism Policy

All submissions to JMALET are screened using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with high similarity rates or evidence of plagiarism are rejected or returned to authors for correction, depending on the severity.

Ethical Approval

Studies involving human participants must have obtained ethical approval from an appropriate ethics committee. Informed consent must be obtained where applicable, and ethical approval details must be clearly stated in the manuscript.

Conflict of Interest

All authors, reviewers, and editors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest that may influence the evaluation or publication process.

Data Sharing and Transparency

JMALET supports transparency in research. Authors are encouraged to share their data when appropriate and to provide clear and accurate descriptions of their research processes.

Corrections and Retractions

If errors or ethical issues are identified after publication, the journal may issue:

• corrections,
• retractions,
• expressions of concern.
